TitanAir is a proposed seaplane that will fly across Titan, a moon of Saturn.

History

In January 2023, NASA awarded a small grant to a former Boeing mechanic to explore the concept of a robotic aircraft to Titan to soar around its atmosphere and successfully get samples of its methane lakes.[1]

NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts has budgeted $175,000 for the mission's Phase I concept, and will continue to add to the budget as the aircraft is equipped[dubious ] with new instruments.[1]

Overview

The mission will send a mobile seaplane to Titan and learn about its methane and ethane atmosphere, land on Titan's lakes,[1] and will also be equipped with a sampler to help scientists understand Titan's methane lakes.[1][dubious ]
