NC-17 is the upcoming debut studio album by American singer Noah Cyrus, planned to be released in 2017 by Syco Music. It will include Cyrus’ debut single "Make Me (Cry)" featuring English singer-songwriter Labrinth, along with the two other singles "Stay Together" and "Again" featuring American rapper XXXTentacion. The album will also include the two promotional singles "I’m Stuck" and "Almost Famous".
Background
Cyrus revealed the album title on January 30, 2017, through her Twitter account.[1] The title is named after the film rating NC-17, with 'NC' being Cyrus’ initials and '17' being her age/the year of the album’s release. Cyrus has confirmed that the album will be released before 2018; however, she has not revealed a specific release date as of yet.
Singles
"Make Me (Cry)" was released on November 15, 2016, and features vocals from English singer-songwriter Labrinth, who also produced and co-wrote the song. The song peaked at number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum in the United States. Cyrus performed the song at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards, along with talk shows The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.[2] The song was also remixed by electronic dance music DJ Marshmello, which was released on February 17, 2017.
The second single, "Stay Together" was released on April 14, 2017, and was co-written by Cyrus, Emily Warren and Britt Burton. The song was produced by Digital Farm Animals and Hudson Mohawke. The song peaked at number 38 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 and received moderate success in several other countries. Cyrus performed the song for the first time at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 18, 2017.
"Again" was released as the third single on September 22, 2017, and features vocals from American rapper XXXTentacion. The song received considerable controversy due to the involvement of the rapper considering his domestic abuse allegations. The song has reached number 7 on the Billboard US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles.
Promotional singles
"I’m Stuck" was released as the first promotional single on May 25, 2017, and was co-written by Cyrus, Jenna Andrews, RØMANS and Labrinth, with production being handled also by Labrinth. Cyrus had previously performed the song and released it as a thank you to her fans. On the day of its release, Cyrus performed the song with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus on The Today Show.
On July 27, 2017, Cyrus released "Almost Famous" as the second promotional single from the album and was co-written by Cyrus, Ilsey Juber and Dan Wilson. The song first rose to the attention of her fans when she released an acoustic performance of the song on YouTube on December 29, 2016, along with the acoustic version of "Make Me (Cry)".
