NEXUS International Broadcasting Association

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

NEXUS International Broadcasting Association (NEXUS-IBA) was officially founded in 1988 in Milan, Italy, as a non-profit association of broadcasters and program producers.

As the Latin word nexus, NEXUS-IBA is a link (or point of connection) between content producers and the association's technical facilities used to bring such content to the public.

Member services[edit]

NEXUS-IBA main focus is to provide broadcasts internationally by means of Shortwave radio, targeting Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia with high power transmitters and directional HRS type antennas. Most programs on the air are produced by NEXUS-IBA members, and originate as multiple audio and video streams from NEXUS-IBA network operations center in Milano. From there they are transmitted live to each ground or satellite relay station. Internet audio and video channels are available to the public via the WorldDirector streaming network operated by Wornex International, and published either on the association's web sites or directly on its members'. To increase performance due to the international character of NEXUS-IBA audiences, live and on demand audio and video streams are made available to listeners via multiple servers or point of presence in Europe, Asia and the USA.

Services provided to NEXUS-IBA members also include: ad hoc research and development projects based on the Association's technical know-how, audio and video Streaming media, Shortwave and Satellite television broadcasting, internet hosting and consulting on international media.

NEXUS-IBA as an R&D organization[edit]

NEXUS International Broadcasting Association is also a research and development organization that developed the first known Content Delivery Network in 1995. As a non profit organization NEXUS-IBA acts as a research incubator with hi-tech professionals in the computing, Internet, telephone and media industries for a number of media related technologies. Since early 1995 NEXUS-IBA's Content delivery network technology - called WorldDirector and later incorporated by its spin off Wornex International - has been used for distribution of NEXUS-IBA members' audio & video streaming channels, as well as other archives and web services belonging to the Association's members.

NEXUS-IBA also participated in a three-year research project under the European Union's 5th Framework Program (Information Society Technologies, Key Action I.4.2, On-line Support to Democratic Processes) for the development of DEMOS (Delphi Mediation Online System), an Internat-based platform to favour debate among citizens and politicians, aimed at facilitating "online-democracy".

DEMOS has been completely re-designed and made available to government bodies and private enterprises by NEXUS-IBA's spin off Wornex International, with the continued support of NEXUS-IBA researchers.
