The NH Professional Theatre Association comprises professional theatre companies from New Hampshire operating both in year round and seasonal summer stock schedules.

Objectives[edit]

The NHPTA is a voluntary association, with minimal annual dues. Offering a resource for the theatre community, the membership shares information of mutual benefit, as well as provides information on member events, jobs, and news of the greater NH professional theatre community. As a source for public information, the NHPTA publishes member company schedules, including tickets, directions, descriptions, and area information for participating member Theatres.

Currently the Association represents the interests and activities of 21 theatre companies throughout the State. With a stated goal to raise public awareness of professional theatre experiences, and the benefits each brings to a vibrant arts economy in New Hampshire.

Hiring[edit]

Each professional member theatre company has their own process for hiring, usually based on job-specific auditions for professional actors. Additionally, the NHPTA produces a state-wide job fair and audition event. Usually held in February/March, the day-long event offers registration process for hopeful applicants to be seen simultaneously by a great number of professional theatre producers. Information can be found at nhpta.org

Houses[edit]

The NH Professional Theatres employ both AEA Actors' Equity Association performers and non-union working actors. The Actor's Equity Association is the union of actors and stage management professionals, and operates with many NH Professional Theatres by contract. AEA is a member of the AFL–CIO, and is affiliated with FIA, an international organization of performing arts unions. NHPTA member houses are found from the seacoast to the lakes and mountains and forested border with Vermont. Each a unique venue, with audience capacity that ranges in size, all of NH theatre homes share a common dedication to the highest-possible experience of live, professional theatre in any setting.
