Nadine Matheson

Nadine Matheson is a British novelist, short story writer, and podcaster. She is best known for her crime fiction series featuring Detective Inspector Anjelica Henley, as well as for her work mentoring emerging writers.

Early life and education

Matheson studied American Studies and History at undergraduate level, before completing a Master's degree in International Relations.[1] She later qualified as a lawyer before embarking on her career as a novelist.[2]

Career

Matheson first came to attention after winning a short story competition in 2016. Her debut novel, The Jigsaw Man, was published in 2021 by HQ (HarperCollins), and introduced the character of DI Anjelica Henley. The book was followed by sequels in the Inspector Henley series, which have been described as examples of contemporary British police procedurals.

Matheson also hosts a podcast, The Conversation, in which she interviews writers and creatives about their work. She runs a Substack newsletter, The Writer's Verdict, which includes advice on writing and publishing as well as commentary on cultural and political issues.
