Namita Chandel is an Indian canoeist who has won four Gold medals at the National Canoe Sprint Senior Championships, 2016. She is supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Rahul Dravid Athlete Mentorship Programme.

Early life and background

Born on 10 February 1993, in Chhapara, Madhya Pradesh. Namita’s father is a businessman, and her mother works for a local political party. She has two siblings – a younger brother and a sister. Namita has started working with the State of Madhya Pradesh’s Sports Ministry as a Grade 3 officer.[3]

Achievements

  • Gold medal in C2 500m in the 28th National Canoe Sprint Championship, Bhopal in 2018.
  • Finished 9th in C2 200m in Asian Canoe Sprint Championship, Shanghai, China in 2017.
  • Finished 31st in C1 100m in I.C.F. Canoe Sprint World Championship, Czech Republic in 2017.[4]
  • Silver medal in mixed 200m Asian Canoe Sprint & Dragon Boat Championship, Indonesia in 2015
  • Represented India in the Obstacle Slalom at the 17th Asian Games, Incheon in 2014.
