Nandal (caste)

Nandal or, less commonly, Nihang of Buddha dal, is a patronal subdivision of Sidhu (Jātt), found among Sehajdhari armed Sepoys. Moreover, they claim their heraldic origin from Sikh kinswomen who carried a kirpan (sharp curved dagger). They were sometimes also known by the name of Sarwang or Sarvang Jats.[1]
During the decline of the Sikh Empire, members of Nandal and Sarwang castes were granted a lifelong chancery to be reassigned as Sikh Qiledars or ruling fortifiers under the “Sikh kingdom” of Jind state.[2][citation needed]
