Nano One Materials Corp is a Canadian technology company which produces cathode materials used in lithium-ion battery applications.[2]
History[edit]
The company was founded in 1987 as Lomico International Inc, adopting the name Nano One in 2015.[3] The name Nano One is a reference to the company's use of nanostructured materials in their patented one pot process for creating battery cathode materials. Their patented process blends lithium and other metals such as manganese, nickel, cobalt, aluminium and iron prior to high temperature processing.
In 2017, Nano One received the TSX Venture 50 award as one of the top 10 performing Clean Technology and Life Sciences companies on the TSX Venture Exchange.
In 2018, company chairman Paul Matysek was awarded Ernst & Young's 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year Pacific award for Mining and Resources.[4]
Production bases and facilities[edit]
The company has its corporate headquarters in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada and also has offices in Vancouver.[5]
Nano One's laboratory and pilot production facility in Burnaby were visited by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on 24 September 2019[6] on which occasion he pledged to halve corporate taxes for clean technology companies with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and bring Canada to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Technology partnerships[edit]
Nano One has a partnership with German automaker Volkswagen.[7]
In 2018, Nano One signed a joint development agreement with French material manufacturer Saint-Gobain.[8]
In 2019, Nano One signed a joint development agreement with Chinese Li-ion battery cathode producer Pulead Technology[9] in order to design a low cost lithium iron phosphate plant using Nano One’s proprietary processes.
