Naomi Kimpenu (born 29 November 1998) is an English singer, songwriter and producer. In 2022, she was awarded the Rising Star honour at the Ivor Novello Awards, in recognition of her songwriting skill and creative achievements.[3]
She signed a worldwide publishing agreement with Sony Music Publishing,[4] after releasing a live version of Prelude which was recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios.[5]
Early life and education[edit]
Kimpenu was born in Whitechapel, London, to Angolan and Congolese parents. She was raised in Bow with two other siblings.[6]
She attended the Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School in Shadwell and went on to study at East London Arts & Music and the University of Greenwich in London.
Artistry and influences[edit]
Kimpenu grew up listening to Alicia Keys, Lana Del Rey, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.
She also cites Adele, James Blake and Sade among her musical influences.[7]
Career[edit]
On 25 June, 2023, Kimpenu made her first appearance at Glastonbury Festival.[8]
