Narcolepsy first appeared in 2016 on LoneDev's YouTube channel where he showcased an early concept of the videogame. Its initial characteristics were simple procedurally generated school with a creepy entity chasing the player.

Four years later LoneDev started working again on the project publishing more polished early showcases of new videogame features.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

Narcolepsy is a survival horror videogame where the player has to survive in obscure and abandoned buildings. Player has some ways to survive, one of them is to create Magic circles as seen in Wicca religion.[2]

One of the main mechanics of the videogame is the ability of breaking the boundaries of videogame dispite its PS1 inspired graphics. For example the player can pickup hammers and break the walls or can use a lockpick to pick a door in order to bypass videogames limitations, instead of finding the right key.

Style[edit]

Its main characteristic is to be a videogame with procedurally generated worlds and editable world but with low detailed assets by design. This is a choice to bring back the old horror games ability to scare the player because of their surreal atmospheres. This videogame uses shaders to achieve this retro styled effect such as dithering, low Z-buffer precision emulation (vertex snapping) and low poly models which were the main limitations of PS1 videogames.

Sounds are made from scratch and are meant to make the game interactive, to give the player a sense of constant anxiety when any event occurs.
