Nasko Oskov is a computer security expert who works for Google as a software security engineer on the Chrome browser.

Education[edit]

Nasko Oskov received his education through high school in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He attended University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign where he received his BSc in Computer Science with minor in Mathematics.

At UIUC Oskov was a member of the student chapter of ACM where he co-chaired the SIGMil group exploring computer and physical security. The SIGMil group was the winner of the 2002 PuzzleHack student competition. Oskov has contributed to the organization of the student conference Reflections|Projections.

Career[edit]

Oskov was offered a summer internship at Microsoft, working on smartcard drivers. He returned to Microsoft fulltime after graduation in 2004 working in the Windows Core Security group, spending time working on authentication protocols (Kerberos, NTLM, Netlogon) and other core security technologies.

In 2009, Oskov developed the Microsoft SChannel fix for the TLS Renegotiation attack and worked with Marsh Ray and Eric Rescorla on the RFC 5746 specification for the TLS renegotiation indication extension.

In 2012, Oskov moved to Google to work on the Chrome browser team. He has been responsible for security, process model, security reviews. He is known for his work on Site Isolation - a significant architectural change to how the browser works allowing for much improved security, which has been deployed in 2018 as the primary defense against CPU microarchitectural attacks such as Spectre.

Oskov has presented about his work at multiple events such as BlackHat (2019) and has been invited to keynote the FinJS conference (2020). He has co-authored a USENIX Security published paper on the practicality of deploying Site Isolation in Chrome.
