Natalie Baini is a lawyer with twenty years’ experience and an Independent political candidate for the 2022 Australian federal election in Sydney's inner-western seat of Reid.
Early life and Education
Natalie Baini's grandparents migrated to Australia in the 1940s and moved to Concord West. Both were employed locally and together they raised nine children. Baini's mother went to school at St Ambrose in Concord West, a school attended by Baini from Kindergarten. The Baini family moved to Strathfield in the 1980s where Baini attended St Martha’s School – a school later attended by Baini's own children. Baini completed secondary education at Santa Sabina College Strathfield and currently serves on the Advisory Council of St Patrick’s College Strathfield.
Baini has completed three university degrees: a Master of Laws, a Bachelor of Information Technology (on scholarship), and a Bachelor of Laws, all at the University of Technology Sydney. Baini has also completed additional executive education studies at Harvard University and Stanford University.
Baini was an active member of the Liberal Party since her childhood but left the party in 2021.
Career
Upon completing an IT degree, Baini commenced her career as an IT Business Analyst with American Express whilst studying for a law degree.
Upon graduating from Law, Baini worked as a lawyer across a number of industries including Tourism and Events, Technology and Sport. Baini also headed legal practices in Drummoyne and Strathfield.
From 2017 – 2019, Baini was the Government Relations and In-House Lawyer for NSW Rugby Union and the Waratahs, sitting on the Executive of the organisation.[1]
Moving to AFL in 2019, Baini served on the Executive of AFL NSW/ACT, and as the Lawyer, was one of the few employees to remain in active employment during the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 managing commercial, legal and integrity throughout the pandemic for the State and Territory. Baini continued with the AFL as the National Manager for Cultural Diversity and International Manager, growing the game in over 50 countries.[2] Baini left the AFL in January 2022 to focus on her candidacy for the seat of Reid.
In December 2021 Baini declared that she left the Liberal Party and will run as an independent candidate in the division of Reid at the 2022 Australian federal election. She cited inaction from the Liberal Party on serious allegations raised within the Party as a reason for her departure.[3]
Community Volunteering
In 2019, Baini assisted the Australian Government with the rescue of the Sharrouf orphans from Syria.[4] In 2020, Baini worked with a former US President's Middle East adviser to formulate solutions for Lebanon, post-Beirut explosion. In 2020, Baini assisted families in pursuing Four Angels Law (road safety) post Oatlands crash that claimed four children's lives.[5] In 2016-17, as President of Concord Giants AFL Club and Co-Chair of Canada Bay Cannons AFL Club, Baini successfully secured a new home ground and facility development for the local footy clubs.[6] In 2016, Baini successfully advocated for installation of a crossing outside a primary school in Strathfield. In 2021, Baini assisted with the rescue of Afghan orphans from an Australian-registered charity in Afghanistan.[7]
Personal life
Baini was married for ten years and has two children.
