Natalya Simakova (Russian: Наталья Леонидовна Симакова; 27 September 1976, Tayshet, Irkutsk Oblast, USSR) is a Russian actress and rock singer.[1] Founder and lead singer of the Russian disco-glam-punk-rock band Siberiahills.[2][3]

Biography[edit]

Natalya Simakova was born in Tayshet, Irkutsk Oblast, Russia.

In 1999, she graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute.

Acting career[edit]

Simakova plays roles in the theater from arthouse to classical roles.[4]

Natalya has more than 50 roles in theater and cinema: from the classics of the post-Soviet arthouse “Yady” (Russian: «Яды») to the leaders of the wide distribution “The Stone Head” (Russian: «Каменная башка») and “Keep dreaming” (Russian: «Мечтать не вредно»), at the same time-roles in classic productions of the Vakhtangov Theatre “Three Sisters” (Russian: «Три сестры»), Quiet Don (Russian: «Тихий Дон»), “Mother Courage and Her Children” (Russian: «Мамаша Кураж и ее дети»). Also, she was a member of the troupe of the Center of Vsevolod Meyerhold.

Since 2001, Natalya has been actively acting in films. The audience recognized the actress thanks to the role of Adelaide Epanchina in the scandalous and shocking film of Roman Kachanov's Novel Down House, which was based on the director's novel by the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky The Idiot. Together with Natalia Simakova in this picture participated: Fyodor Bondarchuk, Ivan Okhlobystin, Alexander Bashirov, Juozas Budraitis, Barbara Brylska, Artemiy Troitsky, Jerzy Stuhr and other very famous personalities.

In the future, Natalya Simakova starred in films mainly in episodic roles. Among her most notable works are “Irina Panova” in Eugene Lungin's Comedy melodrama “Time is Money” (Russian: «Время — деньги»), “Vika” in Pavel Sanaev's film “Kilometer Zero” (Russian: «Нулевой километр»), “Alla” in the mystical series “Other” (Russian: «Иное»), “Madeleine” in Philip Yankovsky's action film “The Stone Head”.

Simakova also worked on television as an author and host of the program “ProDesign” on NTV, cooperates with leading Russian fashion brands Terekhov, Arsenicum, Konstantin Gayday, etc. She arranges performances and private premium parties around the world: New York City, London, Paris, Cannes and Monaco.

Musical career[edit]

In 2007, Natalya Simakova created the musical band Siberiahills. The band defines its musical genre as disco-indie rock.[5][6]

Rolling Stone magazine calls Simakova “the rock diva of a new-generation”.

Natalya receives an offer of collaboration from sound producer, musician and Manager Alan McGee (Oasis), who arranges the band's first club performances and helps record their debut album “Storm”. The album was released in 2009 under the label Machete Records. A well-known Swedish sound producer Martin Landquist (A-HA, Cardigans, Jay Jay Johanson) took part in the work on the second album, which is scheduled for release in spring 2013.

At the end of 2013, an underground album ”Elephants” was released, which was produced by sound producer Charlie Castle, known for working with Matisyahu.

Throughout its existence, the rock band has given many concerts at the most advanced concert venues in Moscow, New York City, Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago and other major cities.

In 2020, Siberiahills released the album ”Sufle”.

Personal life[edit]

Natalya Simakova was married to the singer and musician Yaroslav Maly, the leader of the Machete and Tokyo bands. Natalya and Yaroslav met in a recording studio.

In 2012, the couple had a daughter, Michelle.

In February 2013, they divorced after 8 years of marriage. Daughter Michelle, who was a few months old at the time, stayed with her mother.
