Nathan Patrick Furry (born 2 June 1993) is an Australian advocate for Youth Affairs and Public Speaking, Yass Valley Young Australian of the Year in 2012 and the former NSW Youth Member of Parliament for Burrinjuck.

Personal life[edit]

Furry was born in Woden, Canberra, and moved to Boondall, Queensland in 1998. He later moved to Yass, New South Wales in 2004 and attended Yass High School, graduating as the school's Vice Captain in 2011. He moved to Gungahlin, Canberra in 2013 and completed his Advanced Diploma of Project Management at the Canberra Institute of Technology in 2015.

He has advocated for Youth Affairs actively since 2010, actively writing as a youth columnist for the Yass Tribune, and serving as a Youth Councillor for the Yass Valley Youth Council between 2010 - 2014 and Youth Adviser of the Yass Progress Association in 2011 - 2012. Since 2010, he has also volunteered in the Yass Repertory Society and presented a regular programme on community radio station Yass FM 100.3 between 2011 - 2014.

He was awarded Yass Valley's Young Australian of the Year in 2012.[1]

Furry is also an advocate for excellence in public speaking through his active involvement in Toastmasters International and position on the Rostrum ACT Executive since 2014.

Politics[edit]

In 2010, Furry joined the NSW Division of the Liberal Party of Australia, working on the Australian 2010 Federal Election and later serving as the Young Liberal Vice President for Eden-Monaro in 2011.

Furry later joined the NSW Division of the National Party of Australia in 2012 and initially served as the Membership Officer for the Burrinjuck State Electorate Council. He was a candidate for the 2012 Yass Valley Council Local Government Elections as the fifth candidate for Our Yass Valley, a group of conservative independents.[2]

He currently serves as the NSW Nationals Goulburn State Electorate Chairman and Yass Branch Chairman.

Furry is also actively involved in the New South Wales and Federal Young Nationals, serving as the Southern Regional Coordinator and Publicity Officer, respectively.
