The National Academy League (stylized as NAL) is a youth soccer league in the United States that was originally introduced to foster the 2nd division of MLS Next teams, allowing for high school soccer competition.[1] The league was established in 2023 with the 2023-24 National Academy League season kicking off. It hosts a national championship every summer with the top teams from every conference.[2]
Format
The National Academy League comprises of 11 conferences for boys soccer and 3 conferences for girls soccer. The top team of every boys conference and one wild card team (The 2nd-place team with the highest points per game among all conferences) qualify for the National Championships for a total of 12 teams at the tournament. For girls, the top team of every conference and one wild card team (The 2nd-place team with the highest points per game among all conferences) will also qualify for the national championships for a total of 4 teams in the tournament.[3]
