National American Miss is a pageant system for girls across the United States ages 4–20. State pageants are held from March–September, and the national pageant is held in Hollywood, California every November.[1][2] Contestants are eligible to compete for the title in their age division. The six divisions are Princess ages 4–6, Junior PreTeen 7-9, PreTeen 10-12, Junior Teen 13-15, Teen 16-18, and Miss 19-20. Contestants participate in four areas of competition: Formal Wear, Personal Introduction, Interview and Community Service.[1]

History[edit]
National American Miss was founded in 2002 and is produced nationally by Spirit Productions, Inc. The system holds state pageants, or appoints representatives, in all 50 states. Each state winner goes on to compete in the national pageant for the title of National American Miss for their age group.
Areas of Competition[3][4][edit]
- Formal Wear
- Formal Wear counts for 30% of the final pageant score. Every contestant is individually introduced on stage as they model in the dress of their choice.
- Personal Introduction
- Personal Introduction counts for 30% of the final pageant score. During this competition, contestants wear interview apparel and introduce themselves in a public speaking format, on stage, in front of a live audience.
- Interview
- Interview counts for 30% of the final pageant score. Each contestant talks one-on-one with each of the pageant judges. [5]
- Community Involvement
- Community involvement counts for 10% of the final pageant score. The full 10% is awarded to contestants when they contribute a book or school supplies on pageant weekend.[6]
Optional Competitions[7][edit]
In addition to the pageant competition, contestants may enter optional competitions in their individual areas of interest:
- Talent – Contestants perform a talent of their choice in front of a live audience
- Casual Wear – In this competition, contestants model an outfit of their choice, runway-style, in front of a live audience[1]
- Spokesmodel – Contestants give a prepared speech to a live audience on a topic of their choice[1]
- Actress – This competition involves reciting a commercial in front of a live audience in an audition format
- Photogenic – Contestants submit a photo to be scored
- Top Model – Contestants participate in a live photo shoot
The optional contests are judged by separate panels of judges from the panel that selects the pageant winners. These scores have no effect on the overall pageant scoring. Additional optional competitions include Academic Achievement, Community Service, and the Miss Personality.[1]
Advertising[edit]
In addition to the state and national competition, there is advertising. This is a great chance to win prizes! You can try and win State Ambassador, (2 pages of ads) or Cover Girl, (3 pages of ads). The difference between State Ambassador and Cover Girl is: Cover Girl is like your another State Queen. You get to do almost everything the State Queen does. And for the State Ambassador, you don't really do anything with your State Queen. Both of these prestigious titles will earn you a trip to the National Competition.

National All-American Miss[edit]
In addition to the National American Miss pageant competition for state queens, contestants can qualify to compete in a separate competition at the national finals known as the National All-American Miss pageant. Both competitions are held at the national level for each of the six age groups.
Contestants qualify to participate in the National All-American Miss national competition through achievements at the state level competition. Qualifications include: placing in the queen’s court (one of the 4 runners-up), winning a major optional competition, high achievement (one of the 4 runners-up) in a major optional competition, achievement levels in the Outstanding Program Participation program, or winning the Academic Achievement award at a state pageant.
