The National Boxing Association (NBA) is an American professional boxing sanctioning organization, awarding title belts to boxers competing in various weight classes. The NBA was established in May 1984 in New York City and is currently based out of Tampa, Florida.[1] It should not be confused with the original National Boxing Association, which became the World Boxing Association in 1962.

History[edit]

The National Boxing Association was established in May 1984 in New York City. Founder and initial president of the NBA, Irv Abramson, rebuilt the NBA name as it had been dormant since the 1960s, and established the groundwork for the growth of the NBA. Former champions include Roy Jones Jr.,[2] Roberto Durán, Hector "Macho" Camacho,[3] and Edner Cherry.[4]

In 2018, Damon Gonzalez took over control of the National Boxing Association.
