The National Revolutionary Council (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) is a Muslim nationalist political party in Bangladesh, founded in November 2024 by Khomenee Ehsan and officially launched on 16 December 2024. Emerging from the Student–People's Uprising, it is the first political organization established by participants in the movement. The party advocates for a governance system rooted in Muslim nationalism, drawing inspiration from the historical precedents of the Bengal Sultanate. Anisur Rahman serves as its current political head.
History
Background
Students in Bangladesh began a quota reform movement in early June 2024 after the Bangladesh Supreme Court invalidated the government's 2018 circular regarding job quotas in the public sector. The movement escalated into a full-fledged mass uprising after the government carried out mass killings of protesters, known as the July massacre, by late July. By early August, the movement evolved into a non-cooperation movement, ultimately leading to the ouster of the then-Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, on 5 August 2024.[1]
Formation
The organization was initially founded on 7 November 2024 by Khomenee Ehsan, with Hasan Arif being the coordinator of the party.[2] The party was officially launched on 16 December 2024, marked by a symbolic gathering at Dhaka University Central Mosque.[3] The council organizers claimed that the party had been formed representing the students and mass people who played key roles in the July Revolution. Identifying themselves as Muslim nationalists, the group announced a movement in order to abolish fascism and injustice from the country.[4]
Objectives
The National Revolutionary Council aims to take a leadership role in crafting a new political landscape in Bangladesh, one that resonates with the ideals of the youth and martyrs of the July Revolution.[5] The political party mainly works on the basis of three principles: democracy, human rights and justice, eradicating all forms of fascism. The council also aims to establish Muslim nationalism in Bangladesh and build a democratic society in the light of the harmony and independence of the Muslim Sultanate.[6]
Convening Committee
In December 2024, the National Revolutionary Council announced a 77-member convening committee including representatives from various sectors, such as women, researchers, teachers, etc. [7] The key members of the committee are:[8]
