Naugachia is a town in Anga region[1] of India. It is a block and a division of the Bhagalpur district and also a police district.

Geography[edit]

Naugachia comes under Anga region so People of Naugachia always want that Naugachia should be declared as Naugachia District because it fulfills all the criteria including population ratio and land area. Because of its location between the Ganges River and the Kosi River, Naugachhia is completely encircled by water on both of its sides. Yellow maize is one of its most well-known exports and a primary source of revenue. In addition to this, it is also frequently referred to as the "Kelanchal of Bihar" (producer of bananas). Since the construction of the ring dam on two of its borders, Naugachia no longer has to worry about being flooded as regularly as it did before the dam was erected. Because much of Bhagalpur's economic activity takes place in Naugachia and the city does not have a railway line, the only method to get from Bhagalpur to NH 31 is by crossing the Vikramshila Bridge. This bridge is located between the two cities. Due to construction of the Ring dam, flood is no longer a problem for Naugachia. Naugachia is the heart of Bhagalpur, because Vikaramshila Bridge starts from Naugachia on Ganga River.

Demographics[edit]

India census, Naugachia had a population of 49,069. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Naugachia has an average literacy rate of 62%, lower than the national average of 74%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 55%. In Naugachia, 18% of the population is under 9 years of age.

Transport[edit]

'Naugachia railway station' (station code: NNA) is on the Barauni–Katihar section of the Sonpur railway division and serves the town of Naugachia in the Indian state of Bihar.

'Vikramshila Setu' is 6th longest bridge over water in India. The 4.7 km long two lane bridge serves as a link between NH 33 and NH 31 running on the opposite sides of the Ganges. It runs from Barari Ghat on the Bhagalpur side on the south bank of the Ganges to Naugachia on the north bank.

'Baba Bishu Raut' bridge built over Kosi river at Naugachia in Bhagalpur district to the people. The 1.84 km long Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) bridge built at a cost of Rs 368 crore in Naugachia will help connect Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura districts directly with Bhagalpur, Purnia and Katihar districts.
