Nautique Boat Company, Inc. is a Florida, US-based boat manufacturer that focuses primarily in luxury wakeboard, wakesurf, and waterski boats. The company was founded in 1925 as Florida Variety Boat Company by Walter C. Meloon and now forms part of Correct Craft.[1] The company is currently headquartered in Orlando, FL.[2]

History[edit]

Nautique's founder, Walter C. Meloon, moved from Ossipe, New Hampshire to Central Florida with his wife and children in 1924. He did this to take advantage of the real estate boom happening at the time. The following year he formed the Florida Variety Boat Company in Pine Castle, Florida.

The company performed many firsts for a boat building company such as using tow pylons for watersports, integrate tracking fins into its hull designs, and design an all wakeboard-specific boat.

The exact year that Nautique formed as a separate company to Correct Craft is not well documented but the first ever Ski Nautique was launched in 1961. This was the first time that the Nautique name appeared in the Correct Craft catalogue, but the company made use of their 36 years of boatbuilding experience to design this new boat. The Ski Nautique was the first fiberglass ski boat and was designed by Leo Bentz.[3] This was the world's first tournament inboard ski boat. [4]

In 1986, SeaWorld signed a contract with Correct Craft to supply them with Ski Nautiques for ski shows at their marine parks. In 1995, Suzuki obtained the domestic rights to be the only Japanese agent allowed to sell Correct Craft boats.[5]

In 1977, Correct Craft established its first ski team.[1] The Barefoot Nautique is launched in 1979. Correct Craft introduces the Air Nautique, the first wakeboard-specific boat.[1]

In 2012, Nautique launches the Super Air Nautique G23.[1] Many professional wakeboarders and wakesurfers believe that this boat revolutionised the wake boat industry.[6][7][8] Nautique continues to try revolutionise the industry by introducing new, innovative features. In 20120, Nautique introduced the Super Air Nautique G23 Paragon and G25 Paragon. The goal of these two boats was to redefine what a luxury boat is, and what it can do.[9][10]

Awards[edit]

The Ski Nautique model of the Nautique catalogue is the most successful ski boat of all time. The Ski Nautique has broken countless records since its inception. In 2016, Jacinta Carroll broke three records in one competition. She set the record for flying 59.2 meters and then breaking it again with a distance of 60.3 meters. She also broke the record for her points tally of 10,610.[11] In 2019, Patricio Font broke yet another record by setting a new highest points tally for the Junior Boys Trick Division in the Nautique Moomba Masters event. His new highest score was 11,090.[12] These are four of many world and national records that the Ski Nautique has set. The Ski Nautique has also pulled over 100 personal bests.[13]

The Super Air Nautique G23, the flagship in Nautique's range, is their most awarded boat. The G23 has been awarded the WakeWorld Rider's Choice for Wakeboard Boat of the Year from 2013-2019, a total of seven times.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20] The G23 has also won the WakeWorld Rider's Choice for Wakesurf boat of the year from 2014-2017 and again in 2019, a total of five times.[21][22][23][24][25]

Nautique has also won accolades for the innovations included in their boats. Here is a list of awards they received for their other products:
