Naveen Chaudhary (born 1 January) is a mechanical and transport engineer. He is notable for inventing the conceptual Ringway Transportation System[1] designed in 2004 and for delivering significant rolling stock and rail projects in Australia and India. As of 2025, he is Senior Engineer, Rail & Mass Transit at Aurecon.
Early life and education
Chaudhary was born in Varanasi, India and holds a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from Gautam Buddha Technical University (2012), as well as a Post Graduation Diploma in Rail Transportation & Management from the Institute of Rail Transportation.
Career
Chaudhary has more than 13 years of experience in the rail and transportation sector across India, Australia, and the Middle East. Early in his career, he worked in engineering roles for DB Engineering & Consulting, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, Bangalore Metro Rail, and others.
His experience includes rolling stock and systems engineering, project management, design, testing, type approval, certification, contract management, and the delivery of heavy and light rail projects. Notable projects include the Perth Metronet Project, Bhopal Metro & Indore Metro, Ahmedabad Metro, Surat Metro, and Bangalore Metro. He has overseen the full lifecycle of rolling stock systems from concept and design through validation, testing & commissioning, and compliance with international standards.
Since 2023, Chaudhary has been Senior Engineer, Rail & Mass Transit at Aurecon Australasia. There, he focuses on technical leadership and project delivery for major urban rail projects in Australia.
Innovation
In 2012, Chaudhary was granted a patent for the Ringway Transportation System, a high-speed gliding transportation concept involving frame-supported vehicles moving linearly without rails. His design proposes the use of levitation or minimized friction and aims to reduce congestion and environmental impact in urban and intercity settings.[2]
Professional focus
Chaudhary specialises in:
- Mechanical and mass transit engineering
- Rolling stock design, testing, compliance, and certification
- Project management
- Innovation in high-speed and sustainable transport
Awards and recognition
Chaudhary has been a finalist for the Young Rail Professional Award (Australasian Rail Industry Awards, 2025) by the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) and Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA). He is recognised for contributions to sustainable project delivery, technical leadership, and the advancement of autonomous and energy-efficient mass transit.[3] [4] [5]
