The Navy Education Society (NES) is a non-profit organization registered under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860) in India, with registration number S-17639[1]. Its registered office is located at the Directorate of Naval Education, New Delhi. The NES oversees the administration of Navy Children Schools (NCS) and Naval Kindergartens (NKG) across coastal India, which provide education to children of serving and retired Indian Navy personnel.

Overview

History

The NES was established to promote education, science, culture, literature, and fine arts among naval families. The first school under its purview, initially named Naval School, was founded on August 2, 1965, in Delhi. It began as a primary school with approximately 600 students in a single hall accommodating Lower and Upper Kindergarten classes. The school merged with Nathanian School, was renamed Naval Public School in 1985, and later became Navy Children School in 2005. Over time, the NES expanded its network to include schools in multiple locations, such as Port Blair, Goa, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Arakkonam, Coimbatore, Karanja, Ezhimala, Karwar, Porbandar, and Dholakpur.

Education

NES institutions are co-educational institutions affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), offering education from kindergarten to Class XII (10+2)[2]. The schools follow the CBSE curriculum, based on the NCERT.[3]

Other initiatives

Beyond managing NCS, the NES supports educational initiatives within the Indian Navy. It aids the work of Indian Navy Education Officers, who train cadets at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala and officers at technical institutions such as INS Valsura and INS Shivaji. The NES also facilitates the establishment of Naval Reference Libraries on naval ships and bases to support educational, professional, and recreational needs.[4]

Achievements

Awards:

  • NCS Porbandar was honored with the National Level Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2021–22 and the corresponding State Level Award, recognizing its efforts in maintaining cleanliness and infrastructure standards.

Flagship school

NCS Delhi:
Established in 1965, it is the primary institution under the NES, governed by the Delhi School Education Act, 1973.[5] It offers education from nursery to Class XII and is equipped with facilities including laboratories for Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, and Mathematics, computer labs with multimedia and Computer-Aided Learning systems, an audio-visual room, a cafeteria, a library, and provisions for students with special needs.[6] The school supports extracurricular activities such as sports, National Cadet Corps (NCC), and a house system to promote teamwork.
