Nazran conflict was a conflict between Ingushes led by Kartskhal Malsag and Chechens, Kabardians and Ossetians. The conflict took place in the today's Nazran in Ingushetia in 1781.
Background[edit]
Before foundation of Nazran by Kartskhal Maslag in 1781, the land in today's Nazran was just empty plains and it was disputed between Kabardians and Chechens (meaning nobody had control of the land).[3]
Battle[edit]
Kartskhal came from Ongusht and brought alongside some people from his clan and went to the land, that is today Nazran. There he built a wooden tower which could fit few hundred gunmen. The Chechens realizing that Kartskhal had occupied the land that was disputed between Kabardians and Chechens, were very furious and declared war on him. Kartskhal with his fellow Ingushes climbed on the tower and started to shoot the Chechens that were under them and they put the dead Chechens where the windows were larger and blocked themselves with their corpses. Chechens couldn't withstand anymore and fled the battlefield and were chased by the Ingushes who cut down as many Chechens as they could. The chase continued up until the river Nitty-Khoy-Khi (Ingush: Нитты-Хой-Хи) where the place was full of Chechen dead bodies. Encouraged Ingushes with the war songs, won the battle. After this battle, the Chechens never tried to bother the Ingushes ever again.[4]

Aftermath[edit]
Kartskhal founded the Nazran[5][6] and as time went by the mountaineer Ingushes started to settle in lowlands and especially in Nazran, by 1810 there were 866 Ingush yards and 1,3k armed Ingushes.[7] Just like the Chechens, the Ossetians and Kabardians tried to take Nazran too but they were unsuccessful and were defeated by Ingushes.[8]
