History[edit]
Nearpod was founded in 2012 in Aventura, Florida as an all-in-one solution for synchronizing connected devices in the classroom to add interactive multimedia components to classroom lessons. The technology is designed to provide teachers with software and content they can use in their daily instruction.[3] The company was founded by CEO Guido Kovalskys, whose background is in mobile apps and games,[4] along with Felipe Sommer and Emiliano Abramzon. Nearpod is now headquartered in Miami, Florida with additional offices in San Francisco, California.[5] Since its founding, Nearpod has won several awards in the category of e-learning, including a Common Sense Graphite Award in 2014.[6]
Features[edit]
Nearpod offers three primary features.
- Nearpod offers a library of interactive lessons. The multimedia lessons align to Common Core State Standards and are authored by educators and various publishers.[7][8]
- Teachers can share lessons with student devices and guide the interaction and pace of the lesson by selecting shared slides.[9]
- Nearpod integrates with many school management systems including Canvas, Schoology, and Google Classroom.
Teachers can include interactive slides in which students can draw, take notes, or use the Collaborate! tool on live lessons which allows for interactive brainstorms in real time.[10]
Teachers can share Nearpod lessons with their colleagues.
