The Negros Muscovados, also known as the Negros Pau Muscovados for sponsorship reasons, are a Filipino professional basketball team based in Negros island. The team currently competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as one of active three teams based in the Western Visayas region. The team is also one of two teams based in Negros island, the other team being the Bacolod City of Smiles, with both teams playing their home games at La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod, Negros Occidental.
The team was founded in 2021 when they began play during the 2021 MPBL Invitational, and later made its first regular season appearance in the 2023 season.[1] The name references Negros island being a major producer of muscovados.
History[edit]
In the 2021 MPBL Invitational, the team lost all five games of their games in the group stage and didn't advance to the playoffs.
The Muscovados joined the league in 2023 as an expansion team, competing full-time in the regular season, playing their first game against fellow expansion team Quezon Huskers.[2]
Team identity[edit]
The team's original look from the 2021 Invitational featured a blue and yellow color scheme.
Prior to its regular season debut in 2023, the team unveiled a new look, replacing blue and yellow with green, gold, and black. The color green is meant to represent the land of Negros. The logo includes a masskara, itself a reference to Bacolod's Masskara Festival, and six sugar canes and granules representing Region VI – Western Visayas.
