The Neos was a Canadian hardcore punk band formed in 1979 in Victoria, British Columbia. Before disbanding in 1983, the group released two 7" records, and recorded a third and final album which was released in 1995. Despite remaining relatively obscure, the band has had a large impact on the development of the 1980s hardcore punk scene, known for their extremely fast and chaotic sound that influenced the likes of Deep Wound[1], DRI, and Napalm Death[2]. Numerous other bands have also covered their songs, including Spazz, NOFX, and Charles Bronson.

History[edit]

The Neos was formed in the suburbs of Victoria, British Columbia in 1979 by guitarist and vocalist Steve Bailey, enlisting drummer Mario Kasapi and bassist Kev Smith. The three teenagers made a conscious effort to play as fast as possible[3], amassing the group a legacy for being among the earliest pioneers of the thrashcore sub-genre of punk rock, and were later a crucial influence on the development of both grindcore and powerviolence, with them being cited as influences by Napalm Death and Spazz, respectively.
