Nerses Astvatsaturyan (Armenian: Ներսես Աստվածատուրյան; 1897 – 1953) was one of the active figures of Tseghakronism ideology, the responsible director of the Armenian nationalist magazine "Eagle of Taron" («Տարոնի Արծիվ») and one of the founders of the Taronism ideology.
Biography[edit]
Nerses Astvatsaturyan was born in 1897 in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire. He was the responsible figure of the Bulgarian region of the Armenian Gymnastics General Union. Conducted commercial activities, significantly supporting nationalist movements materially. Together with Hayk Asatryan, in 1936, he published the magazine "Race and Homeland" («Ցեղ և Հայրենիք») in Sofia, which did not last long. In 1937-1938, together with Hayk Asatryan, he published the "Eagle of Taron" («Տարոնի Արծիվ») magazine, which was the official organ of the Taron movement founded by them. On January 27, 1945, he was arrested by the USSR Committee for State Security (KGB) and sentenced to 10 years in prison on October 20.
He died on August 28, 1953 in the detention center of Irkutsk region. He was exonerated posthumously in 1963.
