Nettie’s House of Spaghetti (or simply Nettie’s) is an Italian restaurant located in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. The restaurant opened in 2018 and was ranked the 28th best Italian restaurant of New Jersey by NJ.com in 2022. It received national headlines when the restaurant announced a ban on children under 10 years old eating at the establishment, beginning in March 2023. The announcement was made by restaurant ownership on social media, with mixed reactions by locals.[1][2]

Location and description[edit]

Nettie's is located at the intersection of Asbury Avenue and Shafto Road (County Route 547) in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, about 4 miles west of Asbury Park. It opened in 2018 at the former Luigi’s Tavern which opened in 1958. The long-standing bar and restaurant was originally built by Luigi Menditto and operated for nearly 60 years. It was sold to current owners Chris and Tania Calabrese, who established an Italian eatery, known as Nettie’s House of Spaghetti. The restaurateurs gave the property a complete design overhaul, while still maintaining some of the previous restaurant’s unique charm that customers have enjoyed for years. They are best known for their pasta and wine selections, among other popular entrees.[3]

Ban on children[edit]

On February 9, 2023, the restaurant announced on social media that they will no longer allow children under 10 to dine in the restaurant, starting March 8. The post said: “We love kids. We really, truly, do, between noise levels, lack of space for high chairs, cleaning up crazy messes, and the liability of kids running around the restaurant, we have decided that it’s time to take control of the situation.” This sparked a large amount of mixed reactions from frequent patrons of the restaurant.[4]
