New Nodaway Humane Society
The New Nodaway Humane Society, also known as NNHS and formerly known as Nodaway Humane Society, is an animal shelter in Maryville, Missouri.[1] It was formed in 1985[2]. The NNHS is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 charitable organization[3] that focuses on animal welfare by sheltering and caring for lost, abused, or unwanted dogs and cats, and to advocate the humane treatment of all animals, and to reduce overpopulation through spaying and neutering programs[2]. The NNHS serves the City of Maryville[4], Nodaway County and surrounding communities in Northwest Missouri.[5] The New Nodaway Humane Society provides services like animal adoptions[6], spay or neuter, pet microchipping[7], community animal control, pet licensing, educational programs and owner pet returns[8]
Mission:
"Our mission is to give shelter and care to lost, abused, or unwanted dogs and cats, to advocate the humane treatment of all animals, and to reduce overpopulation through a successful spaying and neutering program." [2]
History:
The New Nodaway Humane Society was established with by-laws in the office of Frank Strong at 7:30 p.m. May 15, 1985. The original officers were Martha Johnson, President; Tom Carneal, Vice President; Marjo Nocks, Secretary – Treasurer. Board members were Dolores Albertini, Martha Blacketer, Mary Jackson and Jill Wittwer. The word “New” was added to the organization’s name in order to distinguish it from the former Nodaway Humane Society.[2]
