Next Media is a multimedia conglomerate in Uganda.[1][2].

History[edit]

In 2007, Nathan Nabeta initiated the establishment of NBS TV Uganda. In 2014, Mr. Kin Kariisa assumed ownership of NBS Television, and in 2016, he introduced Salam TV and Sanyuka TV. In October 2017, the Nile Post newspaper (an online publication) was inaugurated[3] The trend of innovation persisted into 2018 with the launch of Next Radio, an audiovisual radio station. In 2019, Next Communications, a digital media agency, was established. Concurrently, Next Productions Limited, a video and audio production house, was also founded. In January 2021, Next Media Services unveiled Afro Mobile. As of October 2023, Next Media Services has 12 brands.

The company is located at Next Media Park, Plot 13, Summit View Road, Naguru, Kampala, Uganda and it was officially opened by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.[4]

Controversies[edit]

On 1 October 2021, 3 employees of Next Media Services were arrested. The trio were remanded to Kitalya prison were Isaac ‘Kaiyz’ Kawalya, Brian Wako and Marko on charges of offensive communication.[18][2]

On December 2nd 2022, Next Media Services laid off 30 of its employees and it announced later that it was done to pave the way for the digital transformation of the company.[19][20][21]
