Nic Read (born 14 August 1967) is a bestselling business author, researcher and award-winning educator.

Biography[edit]

Read was executive director of Ernst & Young's revenue growth assurance practice, founder of sales and marketing consulting firm SalesLabs, and a visiting professor at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) in Moscow and Kingston University Business School in London.

He designed the "Architect Leader" coaching program based on Harvard Business Review research into effective leadership styles for education. Seeking optimal delivery, he field-tested neuroscientific theories from The Royal Society on how the adult brain learns new skills, resulting in the Alpha-Gamma Learning Standard. In 2019, he served as interim CEO and chancellor of Capital College, an Australian vocational education and training institution.

His models for education, management, sales, and leadership have been featured in media outlets including The European Financial Review, Canberra Business News, Dialogue Review, The Age, SellingPower, Fox News, ABC News, South Africa's "Big Small Business Show," and the British Academy of Management. Read co-authored the business book Selling to the C-Suite (McGraw Hill, 2009) with a foreword by SPIN Selling creator Neil Rackham; an updated 10-year anniversary edition was released in 2019. His sequel, Target Opportunity Selling, was published by McGraw Hill in 2014.

In 2023, Read faced controversy in the Australian press for launching The Group of Sixteen Australia, a vocational education think tank and marketing agency. Concerns were raised about potential brand confusion with the government-funded Group of Eight, which promotes eight tertiary universities, despite Read's group targeting a different educational sector.
