Nicholas Deary (born August 31, 1991)[2], also known by his Internet pseudonym MAKBOT (/ˈmækˈbɑt/), is a British animator and Internet personality. Deary mainly distributes his work on his YouTube channel, which has been active since 2007[3]. The premise of his animations is often surreal in nature, with running themes such as the main character dying offscreen, or inexplicably melting. Deary frequently collaborates with other YouTubers. In 2015, he worked with Tom Cassell (known online as Syndicate) on a Minecraft-based video series[4]. However, after production was complete, Deary uploaded a video accusing Cassell of not compensating or crediting him for his work[5]. Deary's video drew in wide online media attention on sites such as Reddit and Twitter[6]. Cassell later apologized to Deary in a tweet, and agreed to pay him the money that was owed[7]. Deary has also been involved in a number of projects outside of YouTube, including animating for the TV series Pencilmation in 2009[8], Starship Goldfish in 2015[9], and he worked with Riot Games in 2018 to create a commercial for the video game League of Legends[10]
