Nicholas Mihailou (born 13 September 2005) is an Australian technology entrepreneur, iOS Developer, and the co-founder and CTO of Frenter. [1]

Early life and education

Mihailou was born in Sydney, Mihailou was raised in Queens Park, Eastern Sydney. He was educated at Cranbrook School.

Mihailou developed a passion for developing software at the age of 12. [2] He designed his first publicly launched mobile app, Puzzle Dash, at the age of 13. He developed the mobile app alongside his school friend, Jehiel Pather, a software developer. The pair developed the game in 3 days. The game went on to be downloaded in over 50 countries, and as a result, Apple invited the pair to its Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. Mihailou and Pather were acknowledged as two of the youngest developers in attendance.

In November 2021, Mihailou was the youngest person to be interviewed by Y Combinator, at the age of 15. Mihailou was recognised as one of the youngest people to ever receive a round of venture capital funding in technology, at the age of 16.[3]

Mihailou was named the Teen Entrepreneur of the Year during the Teens In Business Awards in 2021.[4]

Career

PlayPixel

In February 2017, at the age of 12, Mihailou founded PlayPixel, a game development studio focused on developing mobile games for the App Store. After the launch of Puzzle Dash, his initial launch, Mihailou caught the attention of several Apple executives, including Leo Wyndham, a former Director for iTunes and the App Store. Mihailou was encouraged by several Apple executives to focus on consumer apps rather than mobile games due to the lack of profitability in the space. [5] In May 2020, PlayPixel shut down due to several later releases which lacked consumer engagement.

Frenter

In June 2021, Nicholas co-founded Frenter. A rental technology company alongside Zachary Laberge. [6] The company develops software for rental stores which manages payroll, inventory management, logistics, and customer service. In August 2021, Frenter acquired 2 competitors, RentBridge and ReeSale, for an undisclosed sum.[7] [8]. Frenter has raised a total of US$350k from a consortium of investors including Canadian billionaire John Risley, Killick Capital, Dispatch Ventures and Gaingels. [9]

Personal life

Mihailou lives in Sydney, and attends high school at Cranbrook School.
