Nicholas Zebrun (born September 8, 1983.[1]) is an American filmmaker, playwright, actor, composer, and former mayoral candidate from Fort Worth, Texas.
Early life
Zebrun was born September 8, 1983 in Miami, Florida to Christine Ann (née Kaniuk) and William Joseph Zebrun. His mother is a graphic designer and his father is a Russian Orthodox priest. Zebrun graduated from Southwest High School in Fort Worth, Texas in 2002.
Film and Television career
Zebrun began making films in 2005, starting with the short thrillers Midnight Ransom[2] and Midday Ransom[3]. Other films include Michelle On My Mind[4], and the award-winning Noir City[5], and Requiem for a Shallow Heart[6]. From 2013–2014 he hosted the local Fort Worth-based talk show The Show Show[7], in which local figures came on to speak about the things happening in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
Politics
At 27, Zebrun was a candidate for mayor in the 2011 Fort Worth mayoral election[8], receiving roughly 1% of the vote in a field of five candidates. Zebrun's platform was primarily based on fixing the city's pension problem, expanding opportunity for low-income neighborhoods, and improving the quality of education across all Fort Worth public schools[9]. In the run-off election that followed, Zebrun endorsed Jim Lane[10], who ended up losing to Betsy Price.
Theatre career
Zebrun has performed in many local community theater productions, including The Devil's Disciple[11] by George Bernard Shaw, Six Characters in Search of an Author[12] by Luigi Pirandello, The Daughter of Saint Nicholas[13] by Linda Daugherty, Buried Child[14] by Sam Shepherd, and Hay Fever[15] by Noel Coward.
Zebrun has also become known as a theatrical director, playwright and composer, writing the original children's shows The Boy Who Cried Giant[16] and Snow White and the Seven Doubts[17], the satirical To Catch a Predator: The Musical[18], and directing Atwater: Fixin' to Die[19], Some Things You Need to Know Before the World Ends (A Final Evening with the Illuminati)[20], and adaptations of William Shakespeare's Hamlet: Prince of Denmark[21] and Much Ado About Nothing[22]
