Nick Grady (born August 27, 1985) is a United States Combat Veteran, a painter, and an EMT. He was dubbed the "NFT GRUNT" by the media and the art community and is widely acclaimed for his paintings of the war in Afghanistan and feelings of war.[1]
Early life and education
Nicholas Grady was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, a U.S. Air Force base where his father was stationed. His family moved numerous times across the United States due to his father’s military obligations. Nicholas’s parents divorced in 1998 while living in Georgia. After the divorce, he relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado with his father and two older brothers. At the age of 10, Nicholas gained interest in sketching, watercolor and oil painting from his grandmother who was an avid painter.
Nicholas graduated high school in Owensville, Missouri and later completed a Master Welder’s course at Tulsa Welding School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Once Nicholas completed welding school, he joined the United States Army and later went to Infantry School in Ft. Benning, Georgia. Later in life, once Nicholas was out of the military he continued his education and completed an Emergency Medical Technician course as well as a Paramedic college course.
Military Career
Once graduated from Infantry school, Nicholas was stationed in Ft. Polk, Louisiana where he served as a squad designated marksman in BlackHawk Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division. On the night of Halloween, 2009, Nicholas was deployed to Wardak Province, RC East, Afghanistan, where he would complete a year-long combat deployment. During his time in Afghanistan as a Squad Designated Marksman, he earned his Combat Infantry Badge. After his time with the 10th Mountain Division, he was stationed in Vilseck, Germany with 2/2 CR.
