Nick Mathews (February 27, 1980- ) is an actor known for roles in Power of Prayer[1] (2016), An Imperfect Murder[2] (2021) opposite Sienna Miller[3] and Alec Baldwin[4]) and Heather[5] (in production as of 2021).[6]
Biography[edit]
Mathews was born at Hackensack University Medical Center, in New Jersey. Son of Carole Buonagurio (April 5th 1950- ) a teacher’s aide and housewife, and Michael Buonagurio (1948 - ) a butcher turned cleaning man turned R.N. He is the older brother to one sibling, Brian.
The brothers had a difficult childhood where they experienced severe trauma and on-going domestic violence from the time they were young children throughout high school. Mathews knew he needed to leave and get out but didn’t know how.[7] It wasn’t until he entered Teaneck High School when he realized that pouring himself into his studies and extra circulars could lead to being the first in his family to go to college. It was here when he first caught the acting bug while performing the male lead, Jeff Barry, in Leader of the Pack. The instant gratification of performing proved there was nothing on earth that he experienced quite like it.
Career[edit]
Mathews went on to study at Rutgers University, where he majored in Theater Arts (BA) and later continued his actor training at The William Esper School of Acting in Manhattan, New York under the tutelage of Barbara Marchant. He was quickly signed to his first manager and agent after completing his conservatory training which lead him to booking his first television appearance on As The World Turns. He was shortly after cast as a “prisoner” in Far Away by Caryl Churchill, directed by Stephen Daldry at The New York Theatre Workshop starring Frances McDormand, Marin Ireland and Chris Messina.[8]
