Nick Oberheiden
Nick Oberheiden (born 1978) is a German-American trial lawyer who specializes in federal criminal and national security litigation.[1][2] He is the founding partner of Oberheiden P.C., a Dallas-based law firm.[3][4]
Early life and education
Oberheiden was born in Oberhausen, Germany.[2] After completing secondary school, he studied law at Munich University, Ruhr University, and the University of Hamburg before earning a doctoral degree in law (Dr. iur.) from Heidelberg University. [1][2]
After completing his German legal education, Oberheiden earned a Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law, where he received the Morris Greenspan Memorial Prize for Excellence in International Law.[1] During his time at UCLA, he served as a research fellow to Professor Maximo Langer for three years, focusing on international criminal law issues. He also briefly worked at the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague.[5][2]
Career
After graduating from UCLA, Oberheiden began his legal career at a law firm in New York City.[1]
In 2010, Oberheiden founded Oberheiden P.C. in Dallas, focusing on federal litigation, including white-collar defense, corporate compliance, and regulatory matters.[1][6]
In 2022, in United States v. Dr. Donald Hyungjoon Kim, Oberheiden obtained dismissal of all 154 federal counts against a physician accused of distributing controlled substances.[1] In another case, he represented Jack Hsu, helping to dismiss new charges against him after he had fled to Taiwan in 1992.[1]
In 2023, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, and former Congressman Trey Gowdy joined Oberheiden P.C. as advisers, along with other attorneys and former federal agents.[7]
