Nicole Harkin

Nicole Harkin (born January 16, 1974) is an award-winning American writer and natural-light photographer based in Washington, D.C. Her first book, Tilting, A Memoir,[1] was published by Black Rose Publishing in June 2017. It received a Gold Medal in the 2017 Wishing Well Book Awards.[2] She is currently completing her next book, a murder mystery set in Berlin, called Death in Berlin.

Nicole grew up in Montana and Georgia with parents were were in the airline industry. She attended colleges at Purdue University where she studied political science, German, and geology. After graduating from Pursue, Nicole pursued opportunities working in government oversight. After graduation, she worked as an intern for Senator Conrad Burns, R-MT, and eventually landed a job as an investigator at the Project on Government Oversight (POGO). She attended law school at Pace University in the United States, during which time she held a Fulbright Scholarship and lived in Berlin, Germany where she studied German environmentalism. During law school, Nicole also served as a legal intern with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. After graduating from law school, Nicole spent a year in Berlin as a fellow of the Robert Bosch Foundation and researched German's Freedom of Information Act.[3]

After returning from Germany in 2006, Nicole was selected to be a Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Treasury in Washington, D.C., where she worked as an Intelligence Analyst and then Sanctions Investigator. In 2008, she obtained a position as an analyst with the U.S. Government Accountability Office in D.C.[3]

In 2012, Nicole became a small business owner, full-time writer, and part-time photographer.
