Nicole Shanahan is an Asian-American entrepreneur, attorney, and philanthropist. She gained prominence through her work in the legal and technology sectors and her marriage to Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google.
On March 16, 2024, national news outlets reported that Shanahan has been selected as running mate for Independent Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.[1]
Early life and education[edit]
Shanahan grew up on welfare in Oakland with a father who suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Her mother was a Chinese immigrant who struggled to make ends meet before she became an accountant.[2]
Shanahan completed a bachelor's degree in Asian Studies, Economics, and Mandarin Chinese at the University of Pugent Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and her juris doctor degree at Santa Clara University.[2]

Shanahan is an Executive Producer of two films, Evolver in 2022 and Kiss The Ground (film) in 2020.[citation needed]
In September 2023, she received Santa Clara University School of Law's 2023 Young Alumni Rising Star Award, given to graduates who have distinguished themselves in law and demonstrated impact in the community through their service and commitment to the law.[3]
Philanthropy[edit]
Shanahan has been involved in various philanthropic endeavors. She supports initiatives focused on promoting women in technology and advancing scientific research.
In 2018, she helped fund and launch the world’s first Center for Female Reproductive Longevity and Equality through the Buck Institute for Research on Aging.[4]
In 2019, Shanahan announced $100 million in donations to programs that help women become later in life, programs that aim to overhaul the criminal justice system and climate change.[5]
In 2022, she was ranked #6 on Philanthrophy.com's Top 50 donors. That year, she gave $70 million to Blue Meridian Partners, which makes grants to nonprofits to help poverty.[6]
In 2024, Shanahan reported that she donated $4 million to the Super PAC for the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 2024 presidential campaign to pay for a 30-second Super Bowl ad supporting the campaign.[7]

Shanahan was married to Sergey Brin in 2018 and divorced in 2022.[2]
Shanahan made headlines in 2022 when it was reported she had an affair with Elon Musk.[8]Both Shanahan and Musk have denied the affair.[9]
In 2023, Shanahan held a ceremony and "committed" to Jacob Strumwasser, vice president at Lightning Labs.[10]
