The NIFTY BANK Index comprises of Blue chip Indian Banking stocks. It is a benchmark for tracking the capital market performance of the Indian banks. The Index comprises of 12 companies listed on National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). It is the third most tracked index in India after Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex. [1]
The Nifty Bank index was launched on September 15, 2003 ,[2] and is one of the many stock indices of Nifty.
The NIFTY Bank index has the highest weightage in Nifty 50 index. As of January 2023, NIFTY 50 gives a weightage of 36.81% to Nifty Bank.
Methodology
The NIFTY Bank index is a free float market capitalisation weighted index. The base value of the index has been set at 1000 and base date is set to January 01, 2000
