Nigel Braun

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Nigel Braun (born September 7, 1991), better known as NileRed, is a Canadian YouTuber, chemist and science communicator from Montreal.[1] Braun's Youtube content primarily focuses on chemistry experiments.

Early and personal life[edit]

Nigel Braun has a BSC in Biochemistry with a minor in Pharmacology. After finishing his degree, he worked as a lab tech in an organic lab and took post-graduate studies in applied chemistry. He however ended up leaving his post-graduate studies early to focus on his main YouTube channel. Braun has 3 channels, with NileRed being the main one, NileBlue being the second one, and NileRed Shorts being the last one. The channel "NileBlue" mainly focuses on how Nigel cleans his tools after doing projects and experiments. On that channel, he said that he will also focus on his community. He also thought that those community-focusing videos are not very appropriate to put on his main channel - NileRed, he says. The NileRed Shorts channel is his YouTube Shorts-label channel.

Career[edit]

Braun started NileRed on March 10, 2014.[2] He decided to start a chemistry channel because he felt that chemistry is often taught poorly in most schools, leading to people not being interested in or even hating chemistry. His earliest still-up video was posted on March 24, 2014, demonstrating the Pharaoh's Serpent firework. This video went viral and immediately put his channel on the educational YouTube scene. Braun's content focuses on chemical reactions along more obscure scientific experiments. He explains the reactions with chemical diagrams and by recording his experiments.[3]

The popularity of Braun's channel has been attributed to the growth of YouTube Shorts, with his main channel attaining over 400,000 subscribers during May 2021.[2]
