Early Life

Nika was born in Leningrad into a family of Soviet engineers. From the age of 12, she attended an art school under T.A. Gerasimova, who was affiliated with the Filonov school, and then studied under A.P. Zaitsev, the founder of the analytical method and a professor at the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design. At the age of 16, she began participating in the Vadim Maksim's Theater lab, whom she considers her teacher.

From 1983-1985, Nika worked as an artist and author in the samizdat journal "Experiments" and as a scenographer in the theater productions of Michel de Ghelderode's "The Exit of the Artist," and Oscar Wilde's "The Happy Prince," among others.

From 1985 on she was part of the informal art scene in Leningrad. In 1989 she immigrated from the USSR, first to Gdansk, Poland, and then to Israel.

In 1995 Nika returned to Russia. She has lived in Paris, France, New York (USA), the Dominican Republic, London and Berlin.
