Biography[edit]
Solodnikov was born 20 January 1982 in the town of Demidov, Smolensk Oblast. After graduating from school he studied at the St. Petersburg Cadet Rocket and Artillery Corps for three years. Later he entered the Smolensk Institute of Arts, then he transferred to the Moscow State Art and Cultural University. From 2003 to 2004 Solodnikov worked at the house museum of Korney Chukovsky in Peredelkino.
In 2005, Solodnikov returned to St. Petersburg to try his hand at teaching. He lectured on literature and the history of world culture at the Russian College of Traditional Culture in Pushkin, as well as at the Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts. In 2007, he graduated from the St. Petersburg University of Culture and Arts as a teacher.
In 2012, after becoming lecturer of the Library Faculty of the Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts, Solodnikov came up with the idea of creating a social and cultural project called Open Library with the purpose to expand and rebuild the public libraries of St. Petersburg. From 2012 to 2016, Solodnikov served as the deputy director of the St. Petersburg Central City Public Library named after Vladimir Mayakovsky. The most successful format of the Open Library was the Dialogues debate club, where famous figures, including Alexander Sokurov, Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Henri Reznik, Irina Prokhorova, Alexander Auzan, Garri Bardin, Svetlana Alexievich, Andrey Kuraev, Danila Kozlovsky, Vladimir Medinsky, and Alexei Kudrin, discussed a variety of cultural and socio-political topics. From 2012 to 2016, the Dialogues were held in the Mayakovsky Library, in autumn 2016 the event was held in the Hermitage Museum, in spring 2017 it was held in the Alexandrinsky Theatre. From 2018 to 2021 it was consistently held at the St. Petersburg campus of the Higher School of Economics, on the New Holland Island, and then at the Podpisnye Izdaniya bookshop.
In 2018 Solodnikov started his own YouTube channel eshenepozner, where he publishes weekly interviews. The first guest to be interviewed was the Director of the Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky. Since 2018, Solodnikov has interviewed more than 120 people, including actors (Yevgeny Mironov, Chulpan Khamatova), film directors (Alexander Sokurov, Andrey Zvyagintsev), musicians (Vyacheslav Butusov, Garik Sukachov), writers (Dmitry Bykov, Lyudmila Ulitskaya), journalists (Dmitry Muratov, Yulia Latynina), political scientists (Ekaterina Schulmann, Aleksandr Dugin), economists (Alexander Auzan, Natalia Zubarevich), politicians (Anatoly Chubais, Grigory Yavlinsky), scientists (Tatyana Chernigovskaya), ballet dancers (Nikolay Tsiskaridze), film critics (Anton Dolin, Naum Kleiman), and religious figures (Metropolitan Hilarion, Andrey Kuraev).

Solodnikov is married to journalist Katerina Gordeeva and has five children (one from his first marriage, two adopted, and two with Gordeeva).
