Nikolina Gillgren, is a Swedish filmmaker.[1] She is best known as the director of critically acclaimed documentary Six Days: Three Activists, Three Wars, One Dream.[2][3]

Personal life[edit]

She was born in Stockholm, Sweden. She is a graduate of the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Career[edit]

In 2007, she made directorial debut with Ritalin, a stop-motion animated short. The film was officially selected for Diesel New Art, the Stockholm Film Festival and the Taiwan International Animation Festival. With the success of the short, she made another short Nine-ball in 2008. It was selected as a finalist for the TCM Classical Short Films Awards in London. She was later commissioned by Swedish Public Service Television to direct a series of nine short documentaries for children entitled En stund med. After the series become a hit, she made another series of three documentaries about three children's worst fears titled Mod.[4]

In 2013, she made the documentary film Six Days: Three Activists, Three Wars, One Dream.[5] The film follows three human rights activists in Liberia, Iraq and Georgia over six days which provides insight into the everyday struggle of making women's lives better, worldwide.[6] The film received critical acclaim and screened at several film festivals.[7][8]
