Ninjaspy is a Canadian experimental metal band formed in 2001 in Port Coquitlam. The band is made up of three brothers from British Columbia, Canada.[1] They released their debut album Pi Nature, which was produced by Garth Richardson in 2007. Pi Nature was a big step forward for the band as they began to tour across Canada to promote the new album.[2] Ninjaspy coined the genre "skankore," or hardcore/ska, with their genre-crossing, unique sound.[3] Ninjaspy has toured with the likes of Protest The Hero, Batoche, Whitey, and What's He Building In There?.
On September 4, 2009, the band announced during their 2009 Cross Canada tour kick-off that they had signed with Zestone Records (Japan) and would re-release Pi Nature on the label.
Also in 2009, Ninjaspy performed during the Calgary stop of Kevin Lyman's Taste of Chaos tour, as well as the Vancouver stop for the Vans Warped Tour. 2010 saw the band tour Japan for the first time with Death By Stereo and Lost.
Live performances
Ninjaspy is known for their energetic, crazy, and entertaining live shows. In a live review, CordMag said, "[n]ot a speck of the stage was left untouched by this band’s chaotic feet." CordMag also said, "...while I listened to and got somewhat scared by the samples I’d heard that afternoon," "Ninjaspy is really not my type of music... but they bloody well are entertaining." [4]
