He collaborated with artists like Disiz, Oxmo Puccino, Wyclef, Jerry Wonda, Daara J Family, ... Having written and rapped in French for his whole career, Nix found the time right to go back to the roots with his latest albums, written in Wolof : "Excuse My Wolof" (2016) and "EMW II - The Ñuulest" (2018).

Biography[edit]

In 1999 Jean-Pierre Seck, the assistant editor-in-chief of the French Rap magazine “L’affiche” invites Nix and his group Kantiolis to come to France, after discovering them a year earlier on a mix-tape from the Senegalese pioneer hip hop group Positive Black Soul. That trip to France enables Nix to collaborate with major artists such as Oxmo Puccino, Hifi of X-Men, Movez Lang and Malekal Dead of 92i. In February 2003, Nix releases his first solo album “Black Crystal” and brings a new vibe to the Senegalese hip hop game by rapping in French. He releases "Black Crystal Summer Edition" 6 months later and wins the award for Best Solo Album at the 3rd edition of the Galsen Hip Hop Awards (2003). The following year, he wins another award for Best Rap Video for the song “Rap Rek”.

In 2005, Nix released a collaborative album with 3 other artists; Gaston, Keyti and AssMalik as Dakar All Stars. That same year, thanks to a series of concerts and multiple promotional appearances, Nix takes his talent beyond the Senegalese borders and solidifies himself as an artist in all of French-speaking West Africa. The album “Rimes de Vie” recorded between Bamako, Dakar, Paris and Stockholm, drops in 2010 and gets a lot of great reviews from the media and fans. Later on that year, Nix is invited to the FESMAN (World Festival of BLACK Arts) where he performs on the same stage as Rick Ross. He gets noticed by MTV which leads to an interview on the popular channel. All this attention leads to hip hop legend Wyclef being drawn to him while in Dakar and they decide to work together on a future project. A few months later, Nix wins another Galsen Hip Hop awards for Video of the Year for “Zik de Gentlemen”.

In September 2011 he tours in France and in 2012, while travelling between Dakar, New York and Paris, Nix records and releases his mix-tape titled "Tha NixTape Vol.1 #RoadTrip". He releases his “Excuse My Wolof ” EP in January 2016 with all 7 titles entirely written in Wolof. The album “L'Art de Vivre" follows in September 2016 and it features the collaboration between him and Wyclef "Shoot First". In June 2017, while performing for Trace Urban TV in Paris, Wyclef Jean invites Nix along with French Dancehall group Neg Marron to perform on stage. In December 2017, Nix wins the Galsen Hip Hop Awards for Best Lyricist. "Excuse My Wolof II - The Ñuulest" is released in 2018. It is a continuation of the artist reconnecting to his roots; it's entirely written in Wolof and features African artists like N'Dongo D (Daara J Family) , Aida Sock, Omzo Dollar, Mennel, Obree, Mamy Victory,...

In 2017 Nix also co-founded the pan-African streaming platform Deedo, followed by Deedo Distribution and Deedo Dakar Studio.
