Noel Derecki

Noel Christopher Derecki [1] (born December 12, 1978 in New York City, NY, USA) is former child actor whose work in television, film, and the stage was primarily during the 1980s and 1990s. Noel was featured as one of the gang in the film Billy Bathgate (1991) and as musician Tony Vandelo in Heartbreak Hotel (1988). He went on to work in commercials for Nickelodeon and Dannon Yogurt. He was featured as the indolent teenage son in the 1992 Promenade Theater stage production of "Holy Terror."[2]

Research career[edit]

In 2011, Noel was awarded a PhD in Neuroscience concentrating in Neuroimmunology at the University of Virginia. In 2014, Noel began work as a Research Scientist for Janssen Research & Development in La Jolla, CA.

Papers[edit]

"Immunity and cognition: what do age-related dementia, HIV-dementia and 'chemo-brain' have in common?""[3] Trends Immunol. 29 (10): 455–63., "Rett syndrome and other autism spectrum disorders—brain diseases of immune malfunction?"[4] was published in the April 2010 issue of Molecular Psychiatry.

A later paper "Regulation of learning and memory by meningeal immunity: a key role for IL-4" [5] was published in the May 3, 2010 edition of the Journal of Experimental Medicine.

Dr. Derecki's research has been published in the March 18, 2012 Journal Nature for his work entitled "Wild-type microglia arrest pathology in a mouse model of Rett syndrome".[6]
