Noon Slow Food (Persian: آسهخوری نون) is an alternative and artistic eatery located in Tehran, Iran. Founded by Iranian cook and artist Vahid Gholami, the restaurant is notable for having no menu and no fixed prices; instead, guests pay any amount they wish after enjoying their meal.[1]
Concept
Noon Slow Food is based on the philosophy of treating every visitor as a guest rather than a customer. Guests are welcomed with tea and fruit before the meal is served. Upon arrival, they are asked to read and follow the restaurant’s manifesto. Smoking and serving meat dishes are prohibited.[1]
Meals are prepared with unique combinations of fresh ingredients and over forty types of spices. No two dishes taste the same, as recipes and flavors vary each time. According to Gholami, every dish is an ephemeral work of art.[1]
Philosophy and style
While not officially part of the Slow Food movement, Noon Slow Food shares its core principles of slowing down, appreciating food, and fostering social dining. The interior is creatively decorated with kitchen utensils: hanging colanders filter the light, mirrors are embedded in pans, and door handles are made from spoons and forks. Traditional Persian music is often played in the background.[2]
Hospitality
Guests typically share tables, creating spontaneous conversations, live music, and a communal dining experience. The restaurant's location near Vahdat Hall attracts both locals and international visitors.[1]
Founder
Vahid Gholami (born 1985) describes himself as "800 years younger than Rumi". After extensive travels to India and explorations in theology and philosophy, he embraced cooking as his artistic calling. Gholami combines spirituality and creativity in what he calls "khorshgari" (the art of stew-making).[1]
