Norris-Whitney Communications Inc. is, primarily, a publishing company established in 1979 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Original founders were Jim Norris and Kathy Whitney. Whitney left the company in 1990. The company moved to St. Catharines, Ontario in 1992, eventually arriving in Niagara Falls, Ontario, which is their home today.

Norris-Whitney publishes four (4) magazines for the music, pro audio & pro lighting industries.

Canadian Musician – published bi-monthly. First issue published in 1979. The magazine covers Canadian artists, the latest gear, technique and the business of music. Canadian Musician features regular columns on Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Percussion, Brass, Woodwinds, Vocal, Digital Music, Business, Songwriting, Live Sound, and Recording. Also included are classified ads, opportunities for musicians, new releases, and new products.

Canadian Music Trade – published bi-monthly. First issue published in 1979. Canadian Music Trade serves Canadian music dealers and suppliers.

Professional Sound – published bi-monthly. First issue published in 1990. Professional Sound is a magazine for audio professionals. Contains articles and information on recording, live sound, broadcast, post production, sound contracting, DJs, A/V production and multimedia.

Professional Lighting & Production – published quarterly. First issue published in 1997. Professional Lighting & Production provides information on products, suppliers, personnel, and technological developments for professionals working in the lighting and production industry.

Norris-Whitney Communications Inc. also publishes Music Directory Canada. First edition of the book was published in 1983. The Ninth edition is currently in the works and the publication date is October 2007.

Music Books Plus (MBP) is a division of Norris-Whitney Communications. It’s a mail-order service that was established in 1989.

MBP offers books, videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs and software on the areas of: music business, songwriting, instrument instruction, audio & video production, recording, broadcasting, lighting, voice, multimedia, biographies.

Norris-Whitney Communications also offers web design, web programming, graphic design and printing services.
