North American University Debating Championships
The North American Universities Debating Championship (NAUDC) is an annual intercollegiate debating tournament held in the British Parliamentary (BP) format. It is regarded as one of the most prestigious[1] university debate championships in North America, alongside the North American Debating Championship. NAUDC draws teams from across Canada, the United States, and occasionally Mexico, and crowns the official “North American Universities Debating Champions.” The winner of this tournament is invited to debate at the HWS Round Robin, the most exclusive BP tournament[2]. The tournament is hosted by a different university each year and typically features five or six preliminary rounds[3] followed by elimination rounds culminating in a Grand Final, and boasts some of the highest continental in-person competition participant rates.
NAUDC is notable for being the only BP-format tournament in North America that brings together top teams from multiple circuits, including the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate (CUSID) and the American Parliamentary Debate Association (APDA), and serves as a competitive bridge to international BP tournaments such as the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC).
